This video is a follow up to my original Moorish man made Caves (Covetes dels Moros) video that was made in the small medieval mountain village of Bocairent in Valencia Spain. This is a longer extra footage version. It shows us climbing from one tunnel to the next exploring the caves. I’ve left the original sound in this video to try and leave it as untouched as possible; it’s a rough edit that I hope gives the viewer more of a sense of being there.

Note that this video is one of my first ever videos and at the time I used it to experiment for the 1st time with a little comedy (not my fortay lol) so please excuse that All the same I think if you have an interest for Cave Exploring you might just find this interesting.

This early video of mine from 2005 shows a number of the caves that make up the artificial Moorish caves of Bocairent and includes some open source background music. About the Moorish artificial caves of Bocairent

The Moorish caves (Les Covetes dels moros) of the small mountain village of Bocairent situated in the Valencian community of Spain, are just one of the many fascinating places to visit in and around the village. The Moorish caves consist of around 50 manmade caves set into a rock face some 300 meters from the village. All but 1 or 2 of the caves are interlinked inside though a series of openings in the rock and you are allowed to explore them freely.

The caves are thought to date back to the X or XI century and to have been used for the conservation of wheat and water, although nothing is certain.

Incredibly up until only a few years ago these artificial caves were left totally open for anyone to walk up to and enter, however in the last few years as tourism has risen in the town of Bocairent, gates have been put on the main entrances and visitors now have to visit only during visiting hours (at the time of writing Tuesday to Friday: 11H to 14H and Saturday and Sunday from 11H to 14H and 17H to 19:30H, see Bocairents website to be sure)

You now enter the Moorish caves with a guide who will explain a little about what is known about the caves and then allow you to freely explore the caves on your own. You should allow at least half an hour to see the caves and at least one hour if you want to explore every single cave properly.

It’s worth mentioning that some of the caves aren’t quite so easy to climb into and so you will need some good physical form to get into them, however most are fairly easy, just make sure you’re not wearing street cloves and shoes, if you haven’t got hiking or climbing boots, some good trainers will do fine.
